The cheesesteak isn’t Philly’s only famous sandwich. There is also an Italian roast pork sandwich which features broccoli rabe…you should give it a try the next time you’re in the city! I’ve taken my inspiration from that sandwich this week. This makes a great side dish or you can toss it with pasta, too…or put it between two slices of bread.
What you need:
- 1 bunch Broccoli Rabe, chopped into bite size pieces
- 2 links of Pork Sausage, or a half pound of loose Italian sausage
- Oil
- Salt & Pepper
- Juice of half a Lemon
- 1 Spring Garlic Stalk sliced, or 2 cloves
- Crush Red Chili Pepper
- Lanchego Cheese or Parmesan
In a large pan over medium-high heat, place half the rabe and char on all sides until tender. Do not add oil to the pan. Transfer to a bowl and char the rest of the rabe, set aside.
Remove the sausage from it’s casing. In the same pan, heat a glug of oil and add the sausage. Break it up into small pieces and cook until brown. Add a bit more oil and toss in the garlic and spices. Cook for 1 minutes, then toss in the broccoli rabe. Toss everything with the lemon juice and serve with a generous amount of cheese on top!
